EV’s will cut greenhouse gas emissions by half

New research has concluded that a small electric car produces around 15 tonnes of CO2 during its lifetime, compared to 32 tonnes for the equivalent petrol or diesel car. Replacing a traditional petrol or diesel car with an electric model can halve greenhouse gas emissions over the course of the vehicle’s lifetime, according to a new report from the European Climate Foundation.

EV Hero are supporting The Africa Trust, a charity established to create sustainable solutions for some of the worlds poorest people. The people of Malawi, which is the worlds fourth poorest country, are just some of the beneficiaries. Some have received entrepreneurial training and small loans which so far have transformed the lives of thousands of families. Recent testimonies from beneficiaries demonstrate the difference this approach is bringing. For example families who could not afford to send their children to school or even feed them, have through the business skills training and loans gone on to start businesses that pay for school fees, food, shelter and clothing. It is hard for those of us who live in the west to understand that loans as small as fifty pounds can have such a significant impact, but it’s true. So far EV Hero have provided funds to enable forty eight people to start businesses, most loans are repaid thus enabling faster expansion of the programme. Our partner, The Africa Trust has virtually no administrative or fund raising costs because most of the charities funds are generated from businesses donating a percentage of their sales. This means that well over ninety five per cent of all funds raised goes directly to some of the worlds neediest people.
